Announcing Climable's Curriculum!

Climable is proud to announce the launch of its climate change and clean energy curricula for middle and high school students.

Five lessons for 5th and 6th graders and six lessons for 9th through 11th graders are now freely available on Climable’s website covering a range of interdisciplinary topics related to climate change and clean energy. Each lesson is supplemented with numerous activities, resources for further learning, and detailed notes for teachers, enabling educators to easily create engaging and effective learning experiences for their students. The curricula were developed through sponsorship by Mitsubishi Corporation and were rigorously vetted by educators and curriculum developers. The materials were further honed through a pilot phase with middle and high school students in the Boston area.

To ensure wide accessibility, Climable offers training to interested teachers and classroom visits, assisting all educators in implementing the curriculum seamlessly into their existing units. Additionally, Climable is partnering with libraries and after-school programs in the Boston area to host a series of interactive workshops based on the lesson plans. Information about upcoming workshops can be found on Climable’s website and social media accounts.

Climate change is a complicated, evolving topic with scientific, historical, and civic dimensions. Additionally, information currently available about clean energy can be opaque and jargon-heavy. These characteristics can make developing lesson plans that present key information in an engaging manner challenging. However, it is critical that the next generation of leaders gain early exposure to these relevant concepts. Climable recognized this need for reliable climate change and clean energy materials, and, with sponsorship from Mitsubishi Corporation, the organization leveraged its expertise in designing climate and energy literacy for communities to develop high-quality curricula.

“It’s never been more important for young people to engage with climate change and clean energy in the classroom,” said Maisy Rohrer, the Program Manager and lead curriculum developer at Climable. “The youth of today are aging into a significantly altered and rapidly changing world compared to past generations. Developing an evidence-based understanding of the climate crisis and the solutions necessary to respond to it is critical for inspiring effective future leaders.”
