high school lesson 7:
Purpose:
In this lesson, students will learn about energy justice, the national or main grid, and the basics of microgrids. Discussions include the three pillars or tenants of energy justice, the intersection of energy justice and environmental justice, and how certain configurations of microgrids can address both. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to explain the basics of how the main grid works and the current issues it faces. They will also be able to define what a microgrid is, identify its main components, and differentiate it from the main grid. Students will be able to communicate what energy justice is and methods to achieve it. Finally, they will be able to describe the main advantages of clean community microgrids designed at the community level and how doing so addresses environmental and energy justice issues.
