Purpose:
This lesson focuses on the historical underpinnings and rise of the environmental justice movement, analyzes the importance of centering it in climate action and transitions, and how activists can advance its principles. By the end of the lessons, students will understand what environmental justice is, how the movement started, and its context within modern climate action. They will be able to identify past and present leaders of the movement and why environmental justice must be addressed on a global level as we continue to mitigate climate change and prepare for its impacts.
